Friday June 12 – Quilt Raffle Tickets - Don’t miss this chance to acquire a real work of art while helping New Hampshire’s loons. The Quilt Raffle has been a very successful fundraiser for the Loon Preservation Committee for the past few years. This year’s hand-crafted quilt consists of the LPC logo surrounded by wildflowers and little critters; a labor of love involving some 350+ hours of work by a talented group of volunteers. Sunday June 28, 12:00 p.m. - The Annual Summer Gala – This year’s Summer Gala will be held at Church Landing, on Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, NH. Come enjoy a buffet luncheon and auction in this lovely setting by the lake while mingling with fellow loon lovers. Thursday July 2, 7:30 p.m. – Summer Nature Talk: Loons – From Hatch to Fledge - New Hampshire Nature Photographer John Rockwood narrates a slide-show covering the loons’ arrival in the spring through their departure for the ocean in the fall. Thursday July 9, 7:30 p.m. – Summer Nature Talk: Summer Birds of the Lakes Region - Life-long birdwatchers, Bob and Dana Duxbury-Fox, share facts, photos and sound bites of over 50 birds commonly found in the Lakes Region. Join them at 7:30 a.m. the following morning for a half-day bird walk on the Markus Wildlife Sanctuary at The Loon Center. Children are welcome if they can walk quietly through the woods. Saturday July 18, 8:00 a.m. - Annual Loon Census – Each year, LPC hosts an annual Loon Census to monitor New Hampshire’s loons and their progress on lakes throughout the state. Come and join the many volunteers who help LPC tally the loons on NH’s lakes from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and report the results back to the Loon Preservation Committee. No experience is necessary. Saturday July 18, 10:00 a.m. - Annual Loon Festival - Good family fun! Don’t miss the nature exhibits and children’s activities featuring Mr. Phil and his famous balloon tying. Thursday August 6 – Squam Swim – Help support LPC by supporting a group of swimmers who are donating their time to swim the length of Squam Lake from Holdernss to Sandwich, NH. This is the third year Wendy Van de Poll and her swimming friends have sported their suits and tiaras to help save the Squam loons. With the many challenges facing the loons on Squam (see Squam Lake Loon Study), this event facilitates LPC’s efforts to research and test for the recent decline in loons on Squam Lake. Thursday August 6, 7:30 p.m. – Summer Nature Talk: Falcons in Flight - Master falconer, Nancy Cowan, of the New Hampshire School of Falconry offers an exciting opportunity to get up close and personal with these fascinating birds. Saturday August 22, 9:00 a.m. – Wild Hogs for Wild Loons Ride and Raffle Drawing – Come join us for a Wild Ride to tour loons and wildlife in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. LPC and Laconia Harley Davidson are partnering for this benefit ride which will culminate in a festive feed and live music to celebrate the drawing of a Harley-Davidson Softail® Rocker™. Monday August 24, 7:00 a.m. - Annual Benefit Golf Tournament – This year’s 5th annual Benefit Golf Tournament will be held at the picturesque Ridgewood Country Club in Moultonborough, NH. Located between the Ossipee Mountains and Lake Winnipesaukee, this 18-hole tournament is a player favorite. Don’t be late for the 8:00 a.m. shotgun start!
